What is RSVP?

Founded in 1971, RSVP (Retired and Senior Volunteer Program) is a part of the national Senior Corps program, a branch of the Corporation for National and Community Service. Porter-Leath RSVP connects volunteers age 55 and over with service opportunities in the Desoto County, Mississippi area to serve in many capacities.

Why become a RSVP Volunteer?

Even if you already volunteer, it is beneficial for you to join RSVP because...

  • Benefits - RSVP volunteers lead with experience in their communities at community and faith-based organizations and receive the following benefits: 1)Pre-service
orientation, 2) On-the-job training from the agency or organization where they are placed, 3) Supplemental insurance while on duty and 4) Annual recognition.
  • Flexibility - RSVP volunteers choose their monthly service hours (short or long-term commitments or sporadic opportunities) AND there are opportunities to work from
    home!
  • Opportunities - Volunteers are placed at local Head Start Centers, libraries, food pantries, schools, churches (etc).
  • Networking - Volunteers connect with other volunteers in their communities and have the opportunity to socialize, share ideas and develop a support system.

Under age 55 and seeking volunteer opportunities?

  • Community-based Volunteers- RSVP Volunteer Leaders help recruit volunteers of all ages for local projects and other nonprofit organizations.

  • Mentoring Program- Porter-Leath has partnered with the Desoto County Youth Court to establish the new mentoring program for Desoto County youth. Volunteers may reside outside of Desoto County, but must be at least 21 and willing to make a year commitment in a child’s life.
